Hand Crochet Toss Pillow

Our factory has always been close to the communities it operates in, and we know that there are many unemployed women in our Indonesian community, many of whom have been left to support their families on their own. We cannot offer all of them permanent employment but wanted to find a craft that could earn the women money from home between their daily chores. Hand crocheting was an obvious choice: it it fairly easy to teach and requires virtually no capital investment. Hand crocheting is a time-consuming endeavour: a 20×20″ pillow takes roughly 18 hours to make. On average, the crochet cushions can supplement a woman’s income by $80USD/month, in a community where the monthly income is typically around $160USD. The crochet covers are produced on a not-for-profit basis.
