From Humble Beginnings: Offering More than Furniture Since 1979
Like many immigrants from Taiwan and Hong Kong, Clarinda Kung and Peter Tai started their entrepreneurial careers by running a grocery store in North Vancouver. The food business was incredibly competitive, but Clarinda and Peter soon found a demand for Oriental items and began importing products like bamboo blinds, ceramic elephants, silk jackets, and namesake ginger jars.
They quickly expanded, opening stores in North Vancouver and Richmond to meet the rising demand for wicker and rattan furniture.
When furniture styles changed, Ginger Jar began importing outdoor furniture and Italian leather furniture, eventually offering today’s curated collection of modern and contemporary European, American and Canadian brands. The owners pride themselves in offering furniture and décor which are unique, impeccably crafted and a bit eclectic.
